2008 Dallas Cowboys – The Team, the Stadium and the Future

The Dallas Cowboys and their fans are anxiously awaiting the beginning of the 2008 season. Despite a highly successful regular season in 2007, led by young quarterback Tony Romo and sparkplug running back Marion Barber, they had an earlier than anticipated exit from the playoffs. Even though the loss was to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Giants, it stung the organization and fans throughout the country, as the Cowboys had won both regular season match ups against the Giants and had home field advantage.

The 2008 team is expected to be highly competitive and one of the frontrunners for the Super Bowl. In early ESPN rankings, they are the top rated team in the NFC and one of the top 5 in the entire league. This is due to a strong nucleus of top players coming back for the 2008 season, another year under coach Wade Phillips and a strong draft with an influx of young talent and key free agent acquisitions coming aboard.  If Adam "used to be called Pacman" Jones can stay out of trouble, the Jones/Terrence Newman duo may be the most feared set of cornerbacks in recent memory.  Julius Jones is gone, and Marion Barber III will get a chance to see what he can do as a full time player.

The 2008 season will mark the end of the Cowboys time in Texas Stadium, their iconic home for several decades. As the Cowboys became America’s Team, Texas Stadium in many ways became America’s stadium, as it’s unique and recognizable structure was seen in important games year round and was home to the Cowboys stars on the field. The combination of the last year at Texas Stadium and the high expectations for the 2008 campaign are creating a very high demand for tickets this year.

Tickets are expected to be hard to come by, especially for the usual rival games and other big games throughout the schedule. The Cowboys have a combination of charismatic talent and superstars, high quality football players and of course a rabid fan base. You don’t want to sleep on your last chance to take a trip to Texas Stadium and watch the Cowboys. Act as soon as you can to try to secure any tickets that become available.

The new stadium will move the team to Arlington and it still does not have a name, although many fans are calling the new stadium "Jerry World". The project has been estimated at costing over a billion dollars. It will be one of the most technologically advanced and innovative structures of any kind in the world. It will be the largest domed structure in the world and the dome will be retractable, a homage to the open roofed Texas Stadium structure. The new stadium will have over 80,000 seats, which is up from the approximately 65,000 at Texas Stadium. The new stadium’s capacity can soar to roughly 100,000 with standing room and temporary seating and there will be over 200 suites throughout the massive stadium, the most in the league.

The next few years should be exciting for the Cowboys and their fans.
